The Doctoral Degree
The doctoral degree is intended for the graduates of engineering degree. It takes in full-time form three years and in part-time four years. Doctoral degree is completed by taking a dissertation examination and a doctoral dissertation defense. Graduates of doctoral degree are awarded the academic degree “philosophiae doctor” (abbreviated as PhD).
Graduates of the PhD programme Manufacturing Technologies are being prepared for work in research and development departments of manufacturing enterprises, top management positions, in the field of production department management using sophisticated progressive technology, institutes of the Academy of Sciences as well as faculties at Technical universities. They can work for consulting firms and technology-oriented organizations where higher level of technical education is required. PhD graduates represent a basic driving force for manufacturing companies. They are able to bring into practice the latest achievements in the field of science and research as well as elements of innovation, rationalization, novelty and progressivity. Graduates possess deepened and expanded theoretical and practical knowledge of technological disciplines in the field of metallurgy, new materials, chipless as well as chip formation machining, automation of technological processes and their application in production enterprises taking into account qualitative, technical, economic and environmental aspects of different types of production processes.
Graduates of the PhD programme Computer Aided Manufacturing Technologies are being prepared for work in research and development departments of manufacturing enterprises using newest information technology. They can occupy senior management positions, work in the area of department management using information technology for development of new products and their distribution. Graduates can work in the institutes of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, faculties of Technical universities and Technical universities using information technology and CA systems and technologies. Graduates possess deepened and expanded theoretical knowledge of technological disciplines in the field computer aided systems application in the field of chipless as well as chip formation machining of metals, automation of technological processes and their application in production enterprises taking into account aspects of automation of different types of production processes.
Graduates of the PhD programme Industrial Manufacturing Management are being prepared to become specialists in the field of manufacturing enterprises management in all branches of industry as well as in the field of specialized departments management, institutes of the academies of science, faculties of Technical universities and technically oriented universities. Graduates use scientific methods of research with a focus on management, economics, scientific methods of production process design, economic systems and processes as well as computer-aided forecasting techniques.
Graduates of the PhD programme Process Engineering are being prepared to work as research workers in the field of process engineering as well as they can occupy higher managerial positions in enterprise management and deal with the issues of process engineering. Graduates apply scientific methods of research to develop new processes and technologies. They are able to rigorously evaluate and compare information obtained from the literature as well as experiments performed on their own. Graduates can plan and conduct experiments. They generalize obtained knowledge as well as and formulate it in an appropriate form. Graduates use the newest laboratory equipment for their own research objectives as well as to disseminate the results of solutions. They exactly formulate a scientific problem, communicate with the specialists in the field of electronics as well as physicists, chemists, chemical engineers, energy engineers to solve various problems.
