Doctoral study is for the graduates of engineering study. It takes in full-time form three years and in part-time five years. Doctoral study is completed by performing a dissertation examination and a doctoral dissertation defense. Graduates of doctoral study are awarded the academic degree "philosophiae doctor" (abbreviated as PhD).
The undergraduate students have deepened and extended theoretical and practical knowledge of technological disciplines in the field of metallurgy, new materials, advanced technologies of non-chipping and chip-forming cutting process of engineering materials, automation of technological processes and possibilities of their applications in manufacturing enterprises, taking into account quality, technical, economic and environmental aspects of different production types. They can occupy positions in research and development departments of manufacturing companies, in the top managerial positions, in the area of manufacturing management departments with sophisticated advanced technology, in Academy of Sciences institutions, at the Faculties of Technical universities and technical colleges with manufacturing and technological specialization. They can also be employed in consulting firms and organizations with manufacturing and technological orientation, which require a higher degree of technical education. Graduates represent a basic element for manufacturing companies. They are able to transfer the latest achievements of science and research, elements of innovation, rationalization, novelty and progressivity into the practice.
Computer Aided Manufacturing Technologies
The graduates have deepened and extended theoretical and practical knowledge from computer aided and CA systems application disciplines in advanced technologies field of non-chipping and chip-forming cutting process of metals, automation of technological processes and the possibilities of their applications in manufacturing enterprises, taking into account the aspects of automation for various types of production. They can be occupied in research and development departments of manufacturing companies using the latest computer technology, in higher managerial positions, in the field of department management using computer technology to develop new products and implementation of their production, in the Slovak Academy of Science institutions, at the Faculties of Technical universities and technical colleges using computer technology and CA systems and technologies. They can also be employed in companies and enterprises focusing on the sale and use of computer aided manufacturing systems, which require a higher degree of technical education.
Technical Systems Design
Students who graduate with this area of study obtain scientific methods of research and development of manufacturing engineering with a focus on the development of forming, welding, foundry machines, robotics and handling equipment, machines for manufacturing and processing wood, solid waste, etc. They obtain a deep knowledge from the field of theory and construction of technological equipment, in this field they can manage research teams as well as conduct research projects. They simultaneously acquire the ability to formulate hypotheses, methods of verification, to plan experiments with subsequent analysis and verification of the data obtained. They are occupied in the position of developmental and research workers in various fields of industry, as well as specialists for complex security aspects of manufacturing technology production quality in relation: research - development - production - using - recycling.
Graduates understand the philosophy of the study programme Process Engineering and they can use scientific methods of research and development of new processes and technologies. They are able to evaluate and compare the information from the scientific literature and their own experiments rigorously. They are competent to plan experiments and control measurement and evaluation techniques of sophisticated experiments. Graduates can generalize the obtained knowledge and formulate it in an adequate form. They use the latest laboratory equipment for their own research and development and disseminate the results of the solutions. Graduates are able to exactly formulate the scientific problem, communicate with the specialists in the field of electronics, physics, chemistry as well as chemical engineers, energeticians when solving the research problems. They evaluate legal, environmental and safety aspects of production, researched (developed) manufacturing, products, technology and process engineering equipment.
Industrial Manufacturing Management
The graduates of the third level of university education can apply scientific methods of research with a focus on management, economics, scientific techniques in production design, economic systems and processes, as well as forecasting techniques using computer technology. They will be able to work not only in the industries but also in other areas of social life.
